Beard Family Records

DGS recently received the following request for assistance.  Can any of our readers contribute information to the puzzle?  I will forward your responses to her.

Many years ago I found an old home about to be demolished. I retrieved many postcards and a few family photos that I would like to get to a descendant of the Beard family:

William Alfred Beard, circa 1859, England, living in District 4 Dallas in 1930 Census, age 79
Wife: Annie, born in Georgia, apparently deceased at time of 1930 Census
Emma Beard, dtr, born in Nevada 1885—listed as ‘single’ in 1930 Census, age 45

The Beard family residences:
Rt 4, Mesquite (1925)
4526 Leland St, Dallas (1929)
1719 Park Row, Dallas (1911)
181 Park Row, Dallas NOTE: 2 different addresses for Park Row, appear to be early 1900
2841 Britten [?] St, Dallas

In 1940, a member of the family, ‘Lillian Beard’ was living at PO Box 58, Terrell, Texas.

Ms. Carter has held on to these mementos for 50 years.  Wouldn’t it be great if we could send them home!

BEARD FAMILY FOLLOW-UP: Thanks to all of you for your research and postings. I am happy to report that we located a grandson and mailed all the documents to him. The information gave him the names of his grandfather’s family and he is sharing the information with his family; they are “enthusiastically excited.” The grandson thanked me for taking care of their family memorabilia for so many years, his many expressions of gratitude are heart-warming. And this is what makes it all the more exciting! Thanks again to all of you. Nancy

There appears to be at least one possibly living descendant of Alfred A. Beard and Annie M. Shepherd. According to his 1931 obituary, they had three daughters (Rose, Emma May, and Nellie) and one son William Albert Beard (1890-1973). Nellie seems to have married Harry Edwin Griffin and had one son, Henry Alfred Griffin (1902-1973). The informant on Henry A. Griffin’s death certificate looks like “J. W. Griffin, son”. It appears that Rose and Emma didn’t marry. No children for the son William A. Beard have been located. His obituary (1949) only mentions his wife (Lillian), stepson, and sister Emma.

The different addresses on Park Row are probably the same house. The city of Dallas renumbered its streets about 1911.
