Records of Interest to the Genealogist
A guide has been created to describe the Dallas County records available for research by genealogists working at the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library, a part of the Dallas Public Library (DPL) system. It is a subset of the Dallas County Records Inventory Project completed by members of the Dallas Genealogical Society (DGS) from 1998 through 2001. The output from the Inventory Project’s effort was published in traditional book format (available as item #110 in the DGS store catalog) and a PDF version available here ( View the document ).
It is envisioned that the information about which county records exist, the kind of data contained in them, and the years covered will be of use to county employees as well as to interested researchers, whether they are genealogists, historians, writers or merely curious citizens.
