Summer Seminar with Denise May Levenick
Join us for the "Preserving & Sharing Our Family Treasures" seminar on July 29-30, 2016. This is a two day event covering topics that every family historian has or will encounter. Be sure to submit your treasure for consideration to be included in the Heirloom Roadshow.
This two day seminar is a must for anybody looking for information on how to preserve photo’s, documents and memorabilia. Denise May Levenick, The Family Curator, is a widely respected expert on archiving and preserving family keepsakes.
The McGowan Funeral home operated in South Dallas from 1955 until it ceased doing business in the 1990’s. Their records, which have been acquired by the Dallas Public Library, are being indexed by members of the Dallas Genealogical Society. The incomplete index is online and can be searched. This collection is a great resource for African-American burial practices in the late twentieth century.
Volunteering is a great way to meet people, learn new skills and have a lot of fun! We have a lot of opportunities: you can index a probate record, help us photograph tombstones at a cemetery, volunteer at an upcoming seminar, or assume a leadership role and help manage the society.
